Albright Farms' Chicken Co-op

The chicken co-op is currently closed for the 2010 year.  You can still purchase chicken at full price.

We are happy to announce Albright Farms Chicken Co-op, which will allow you to purchase our chickens at a discounted price.

Why choose us?

We only sell chicken that we raise, this means that all chicken sold is raised on our farm. They are part of our farm's life cycle. The feed they eat is raised on our farm, fertilized with manure they leave behind, completing the cycle. Their diet includes corn, grass, oats, roasted soy beans, and bugs they find in the ground. The only things they are fed not coming from our farm are a natural feed supplement containing fish meal, kelp, vitamins and minerals, and ground oyster shells to support bone strength.

Our chickens are fed no antibiotics, no by product; animal or grain based. No animal fats. The meat is not enhanced or injected with anything. We are with the chickens from start to finish. We get them when they are hours old. We start the chickens in a brooder house and they are moved onto grass as soon as they are old enough and as weather permits. They are moved onto fresh grass every day.

When chickens are harvested we load and transport them to processing in a short period of time so they are not spending extended periods of time in cages on trucks. We remain with the chickens from start to finish.

Our birds have minimal "food miles." They are grown on our farm, raised with grain on our farm, processed within 45 minutes of home, and sold at local markets.

This Co-op runs from May - October. One share requires a payment of $200.00. This reserves two chickens a month for you for that 6 month period of time. Chickens will be frozen unless you pick them up on fresh pick up days. Once you commit you can’t cancel, your place is reserved for the season. The chickens will range in size, from 4-6 pounds. When you pick up your chickens they will be discounted 10% off the retail prices.( Whole chickens are 3.75 a pound, retail-priced.) Each month’s purchases will be deducted from the initial payment. The last pickups of the season may have a balance to be paid at time of pickup.

Pickup for these chickens will be at one of 4 locations; you will choose your pickup location when you fill out the application. Birds can be picked up on the first and third week of the month. If you choose to pick them up at another location, or if you want to pick them up on another week, you must make arrangements by phone (at 410-329-3269) at least 48 hours in advance; please do not assume that arrangements have been made unless you get a message back from us or speak to us directly. This way we will be sure we have enough birds available for pickup. If you are unable to pick up the chickens yourself that day you may have someone pick them up for you. The only exception in the timing of pickup is in May, when we will not be harvesting until the end of the month. This means the first fresh pickup day will be May 23, and frozen chickens will be available the following week at all locations. In June, the first and third week schedule will start.

Monthly Chicken Pickup

You must pick up your chickens each month — they can’t be carried from one month to another. Failure to pick up your birds will result in the loss of $36.00 on your account for the month. In other words, if you do not pick up the chickens and do not make prior arrangements to pick up the chickens at another time, you will lose the estimated value of the birds on your account.

Joining the co-op will also entitle you to a 10% discount on all other chicken you purchase. These purchases must be paid for at the time of pickup.

Fresh Pickup Option

We plan to offer members the opportunity for fresh chicken pickup after each harvesting of chickens. Fresh pickup will be offered only on one day each harvest, and only at the farm at 15630 Old York Road Monkton Maryland 21111. The time for pickup is from 1 - 8 pm; there will be no exceptions. The first day for fresh pickup is Sunday May 23, from 1 - 8 pm; future fresh pickup days have yet to be determined. Pickup day(s) will be determined closer to harvesting; dates and times will be posted at the markets and on our Web site. This means if you would like to have fresh birds, you can go to the farm that month rather than picking them up at your regular location. You do not need to notify us of this decision in advance. This year we plan to offer fresh pickup 3-4 times, based on co-op member interest.

Please understand this is a working farm. The sizes of the chickens may vary. Should we have unexpected loss and enough birds are not available we will provide members with the option to pick up additional birds during another time or to substitute with $36.00 worth of farm products. This is our first year with the co-op and we will be working our way through the process with you. Thank you for working with us. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us at 410-329-3269 or at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
